How much does a proposal in Paris cost? From simple to fully planned

A proposal in Paris can cost nothing beyond the ring and the trip: the Tuileries and the Palais Royal garden are free, and the best light of the day comes early. If you want it photographed, my proposal packages cost €450, €550 or €650. Fully organized proposals sold by agencies start at around €590 and, according to Reuters, go as high as €100,000.
That's a huge range, and most of it depends on one choice: do you want a quiet moment, or a staged set with a decorated table, flowers and a private rooftop? Let's go through what each level really costs, what you can get for free, and when a planner is worth it. Every price here is either mine or comes from a source I name.
How much does it cost to propose in Paris?
Think of it in three levels.
1. The simple proposal: €0 on top of the trip. A public garden at opening time, your own words, the ring. No reservation, no ticket. If nobody photographs it, it can still be perfect. You'll just have to remember it on your own.
2. With a photographer: €450 to €650 with me. My proposal packages cost €450 (1 hour, 30+ photos), €550 (1.5 hours, 50+ photos) or €650 (2 hours, 70+ photos), each with the proposal planning included (where, when and how). Even the shortest runs a full hour, so the photos go on well after the yes.
3. Fully planned by an agency: from about €590. A Reuters report from February 13, 2026 describes Paris proposal agencies with packages starting at €590 and reaching €100,000 at the top of the market, with clients at one agency spending €1,500 to €2,000 on average.
What I won't give you is a price for a dinner, flowers, a rooftop or a boat. I don't have verified figures, and they vary too much with the date and the venue. If you go that way, ask for a written quote and check exactly what's included.

What can you do for free?
More than you'd think. The things that make a proposal feel right in Paris are mostly free.
The place. My two favorite proposal spots, the Tuileries Garden and the Palais Royal garden, are public gardens with no entry fee. Their gates open early, between 7 and 8 am depending on the garden and the season; I've listed the exact hours, month by month, in my guide to the best time for a Paris photoshoot.
The light. The half hour or so after sunrise is the calmest, softest moment of a Paris day, and nobody charges for it. In winter it comes at a civilized hour: around 8:40 am in late December, when both gardens are already open. From April to September it's the other way around. In June the sun is up around 5:45 am, more than an hour before the Tuileries unlock their gates, so in summer the garden's opening time, not the sunrise, decides when you kneel.
The quiet. A calm garden at 8 am costs the same as a crowded esplanade at noon: nothing. Privacy is the one luxury you can't buy back on the day, which is why the Trocadéro is the one place I talk people out of: the postcard view of the tower draws a crowd there even at dawn.
The scenario. Neither of my two scenarios adds a cent: a couple photoshoot your partner knows about, or a "stranger" you ask for a photo with your phone, who turns out to be me. My guide on how to plan a surprise proposal in Paris walks through both.
The rain plan. The covered arcades around the Palais Royal garden are a free umbrella. A real storm doesn't cost you anything either: we simply move to another moment.
What does a proposal session look like, without a planner?
Cam and Will's gallery is a good example of how much one area can give you. The proposal happens on a terrace with a stone balustrade overlooking the Place de la Concorde, with the obelisk and the Eiffel Tower on the horizon. Will kneels and opens the ring box. Cam's hands go to her chest, and in the next frames they're both laughing.
Then the session simply walks on. Across the Place de la Concorde, almost empty:

Into the Tuileries, to the green chairs around the fountain basin:

Past the flower beds, with a Louvre pavilion behind them and the ring on her finger:

And onto the lawn, where Will lifts Cam off her feet:

No decor, no rented terrace, and every spot within walking distance of the last. Just a well-chosen place, a plan, and someone there with a camera.
How much does a proposal photographer cost in Paris?
My proposal packages in Paris cost €450 to €650, and here's what changes between the three:
- Le Oui, €450, 1 hour, 30+ photos. Everything happens in one area: the question, then a short celebration nearby. The one to pick when your itinerary is packed.
- La Promenade, €550, 1.5 hours, 50+ photos. After the yes, we walk to two or three nearby spots for your first engaged portraits. Cam and Will's route above fits this kind of format.
- La Grande Balade, €650, 2 hours, 70+ photos. Two hours and several places in Paris, for a gallery that tells the story of the whole day.
The planning (place, timing, scenario) is part of all three, not an add-on. So are the color and black-and-white editing, the private gallery you receive within 3 weeks, and a client guide with outfit advice.
Those photo counts are minimums. What can an hour give you in practice? Mark, who hired me for his proposal and a guided engagement shoot of about an hour, wrote in his review: "Glicia was able to capture our personalities, our energy, and our love in 75 different photos."
When you compare offers, look at three things: how many edited photos you receive, whether the planning is included, and how the photographer will be placed. On a TripAdvisor thread about hiring a freelance photographer for a surprise proposal in Paris, some travelers were uncomfortable with the idea of a photographer secretly following someone's partner. That's a fair worry, and it's why I work in plain sight: your partner either expects a photographer, or meets me as the stranger you asked for a quick photo.
Do you need a proposal planner?
Sometimes, yes. Proposal agencies are a real business in Paris: Reuters reported that bookings have doubled since 2015 at one Paris agency and quadrupled since 2020 at another, with Valentine's Day as the busiest period. A planner is worth it if you want a set: a decorated table, flowers arranged before you arrive, a private rooftop, a boat, a dinner booked around the moment.
You probably don't need one if what you want is a quiet place, the right hour and a plan that works. That part is already in my packages. We settle the spot, the hour and the scenario by message while you're still at home, a short written plan reaches you a few days before, and on the day itself we keep in touch on WhatsApp. For someone organizing all of this from another continent, that's usually all the structure a garden proposal needs.
Compare what the photos cover, too. With me, the question is only the start: the session carries on after the yes, and the longer packages move on to other spots nearby. If you're looking at an agency package, ask how long the photographer stays after the yes, and whether the photos go beyond the decorated spot.
When should you book?
From April to October, the early morning slots are the first to go, and Valentine's Day is the busiest period for Paris proposal agencies, so a proposal date chosen late may leave you the less quiet hours. Book at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead, more in high season. For the payment details, change fees and what happens if the weather turns, everything is in my guide to what a photoshoot in Paris costs.
FAQ
What is a realistic budget for a proposal in Paris?
Anywhere from zero to six figures. A realistic middle ground is a free garden plus a photographer, which with me means €450 to €650 on top of the ring and the trip.
What does a proposal photographer cost per hour in Paris?
With me, one hour costs €450, with the proposal planning built in.
Is a photographer worth it on top of the cost of the trip?
Yes, if you want to see those few seconds again: you can't kneel and hold the camera at the same time.
Can I propose in Paris on a budget?
Yes. Spend on what you can't do yourself, the photos, and nothing on what Paris gives away: the garden, the early light, the quiet. One hour of photos is enough to cover the question and the first portraits.
How much do I pay up front for a proposal shoot?
Just €100 to hold the date; the rest is due on the day. Keep in mind that this deposit only comes back in a case of force majeure, so book once your travel dates are firm.
